KAL2 May Moon Track - Mountain Ash Forest
This area of the forest escaped severe wind damage during the storm in June 2021, and most of the
tree canopy is intact. The cool, moist conditions on this easterly slope allow Mountain Ash Forest
and Cool Temperate Rainforest to grow.
At this point you can see tall shrubs such as Hazel Pomaderris, Blanket-leaf, Austral Mulberry and
Musk Daisy-bush. Rough Tree-ferns are prominent, with Shiny Filmy-fern growing on their trunks
and Mother Shield-fern covering the ground.
